Dear Mahlon,
Thanks for sending the studies. I am particularly interested in the sabbath study. I ordered a study recently that says we should keep the sabbath according to lunar cycles. I got this book from Sacred Truth Ministies, they have some good literature.
God Bless, Lenny Era
Dear Lenny,
It is good to hear from you once again! Lenny, the important theological concept to keep in mind regarding the Sabbath issue, is that the Sabbath as given to Moses, was not based on the "seventh day of the week". This is a biblical fact that Saturday Sabbath keepers do not seem to understand, or will not admit to. However on the other hand, they are totally convinced that God's holy Sabbath is indeed the "seventh day of the week"; when if fact the Bible simply does not support this assumption. If the opportunity permits I will always ask a Saturday keeper this question: Where does the Bible state that the Sabbath is the seventh day of the week? They cannot answer that, simply because that phrase is not found in the Bible! Yet they base their Sabbath keeping on this very assumption and premise.A Saturday keeper assumes that it was on a Saturday that God "rested", and from this assumption the Sabbath has always fallen on this particular day of the week since the creation. It is very important to understand that the "rest" God is presently in, must not be limited to be a certain day of the week, which a "Jewish" calendar has determined. Lenny, the Bible nowhere states that what is known as the "Sabbath day" was made on the seventh day of creation. What is known as the Sabbath day was not in existence until Moses, which is when God gave the laws showing the temporary "remedy" of Adam's sin and also a failed "six day creation"; in which God "rested" the following day (seventh). The six "work" days represented the six days of creation which failed because of Adam's sin, and the Sabbath day represented God "resting" the seventh day. This is what Sabbath keeping under Moses was all about.
The death of Christ made it possible for a "new creation" to be restored back to God. Therefore Sabbath keeping based on the old creation along with the complete sacrificial system is now rendered useless and invalid. It is these "works of the law" if observed by believers will mean that Christ died in vain, as the apostle Paul carefully explained to the Galation Church. This dangerous premise of Sabbath keeping I believe is what Saturday keepers unknowingly have put themselves under. Lenny, please keep in mind that the principle of the Sabbath command is not done away since it is a law of God. Sabbath keeping was always and forever will be based on "ceasing" from our own work and pleasure one day out of seven, which allows for God's time.
It is very plainly explained in the examples of the New Testament which day is set aside for assembly and fellowship. The "first day of the week" (Sunday) is mentioned eight times to be exact, which is the day that Christ restored a "new creation" back to God. The Sabbath day based on the "old creation" has become the "eighth day", which represents the new creation. I choose to follow the example of the early New Testament believers by observing Sunday (eighth day) as the day for assembly and fellowship.
Lenny, what I have explained to you is what I personally believe is the truth regarding the Sabbath question. Please read my "Seventh day" booklet very carefully, and also the documents that were sent to you explaining in more detail this very important subject. Let me know if you want more copies of my booklets and these particular e-mail documents. My advice would be to not follow the theological premise that Saturday keepers are on, and also the premise of "lunar cycles" (as you mentioned). These premises do not uphold the "new creation", and it leads nowhere in the overall plan of God. Believe me, Lenny, Saturday Sabbath keeping does not bear good fruits in a long term basis (I was there years ago), and these people tend to be very judgmental toward Sunday observance (as I also was). Please keep in touch, and let me know if these thoughts have been helpful for you. Thank you very much for your continued interest in the right ways of God, and may our Heavenly Father bless you richly.
